Frau Film is based in Copenhagen and operates as an independent branch of Beofilm. Led by producer Maria Møller Christoffersen and executive producer Peter Hyldahl, the team is dedicated to creating impactful films and documentary series that showcase international perspectives through unique voices. Arthouse titles that pushes the boundaries of narrative and visual storytelling, often exploring themes of human connection or political relevance. While some projects carry a touch of irony and humor, the focus remains on crafting meaningful, thought-provoking cinema.

We are committed to produce relevant, bold and entertaining fiction and non-fiction projects and have a strong international focus on collaborating with established international filmmakers. Nationally, we are determined to produce artistic films by the next generation of Danish voices.

The first feature produced by Frau was the documentary hit Kandis for Livet, which became the most-watched documentary in Danish cinemas in five years and was seen by 1 million viewers on TV. It received several nominations at the Danish Robert Awards, winning Best Cinematography, while director Jesper Dalgaard was honored with the Danish Critics' Award for Talent of the Year. 

The second feature produced by Frau Film was Teona Mitevska's The Happiest Man in the World, which premiered in the Orizzonti competition at La Biennale di Venezia 2022, followed by the TIFF Contemporary World Cinema competition, and won the Grand Jury Prize at Les Arcs 2022. Frau has also produced Philippe Van Leeuw's The Wall (BRIFF) and Sybilla Tuxen's Silent Sun of Russia (CPH:DOX, Dok Leipzig).

In 2025, Frau Film will release several documentary projects by promising Danish talents. The company will also begin production on Hannah Elbke's debut feature film, Maia Against the World, and release Teona Strugar Mitevska's next feature film, inspired by the life and diaries of Mother Teresa.


MARIA MØLLER CHRISTOFFERSEN - Producer and CEO


Maria Møller Christoffersen established Frau film in 2017 while studying at the Danish independent Film School, Super16. She holds a Masters Degree in Film and Media Studies from Copenhagen University and is a graduate of the EAVE producers workshop 2021. Furthermore Maria is an alumni of Rotterdam Filmlab, Berlinale Visitors program and Young Nordic Producers Club. 

Maria started her career producing for Beofilm in 2013 and has a strong focus on international collaborations and co-productions of arthouse films, as well as national talent development.  

She co-produced  Hanah Jusics 'Quit Staring at my Plate' (2016), Johannes Nyholms 'Koko-Di Koko-Da' (2019) which was in competition at Sundance, IFFR and Gothenburg Film Festival. Additionally, she has produced several seasons of series for national broadcasters and ventured into documentary filmmaking in 2021 with the national hit by Jesper Dalgaard ' Kandis for Life'. She premiered Teona Mitevska's "The Happiest Man in the World" in the Orizzonti competition at La Biennale de Venezia 2022 and has a strong focus on both fiction and documentaries in her day to day creative practice.

Occasionally she is a guest teacher or key note speaker at the National Danish Filmschool, The European Film College, The University of Copenhagen, EAVE etc. focusing on creative collaborations & processes, international financing and company structures.
