DEN ANDEN VERDEN

Documentary series, In post production.

Staged as a virtual pilgrimage, the series follows narrator and protagonist Søren Peter as he ventures out on the internet in search of a virtual place that is more humane and grounded than the infinity doom-scrolling logics that he experiences on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

But what does it mean to travel on the internet? Is it possible to "go west" as the settlers did in America in the 19th Century? And if so, which way is it? Such questions and many more make for a highly philosophical virtual adventure, as Søren Peter tries to grasp what happens to concepts such as time, place, identity, and consciousness when our lives turn digital.

Each episode explores a specific subject, such as virtual geography, artificial intelligence, fake news, speed-running, dark enlightenment, and hyperobjects. For each exploration, Søren Peter becomes further entangled in the web in his search for a virtual utopia. Along the way, he builds a base on an anarchistic Minecraft server, creates AI-artworks as though written by Mark Zuckerberg, and explores nightmarish techno-capitalistic dystopias that might be just around the corner.
